For the family

At Turning Point Recovery Center, we typically focus on group therapy for those who are addicted to substance abuse. However, one of the new programs Turning Point is offering is the Family Healing Group which focuses on family members, friends, and loved ones without the client there.

When clients transition from addiction to recovery, there is an entire lifestyle change which involves forming new habits and breaking old ones. We offer a safe place for people to come learn from and support each other as they help their loved ones recover from addiction.

Who can come to Family Healing Group?

Anyone who is supporting a recovering addict:

  • Parents

  • Spouses

  • Siblings

  • Close friends

What do we talk about?

During the Family Healing Group, we cover a large variety of topics related to addiction. Some of the common topics for discussion include:

  • Defining addiction and providing education about addiction to help family members and loved ones understand it better.

  • The transition from addiction to recovery, including how things are now that the loved one is in recovery and what it was like for them when their loved one was using.

  • What family and friends can do now to support their recovering loved one.

  • Tactics for taking care of themselves while they support their loved one.

  • Tactics for rebuilding trust and evolving from a distrusting relationship to one with feelings of safety and honesty.

  • New communication tactics: How were you communicating before? How will it be different now?

  • Discovering what everyone’s role in addiction is.

How long does it last?

Family Healing Group is an 8 week program and is an open group, which means that families dealing with recovery in various stages will all be together in the same group. This format fosters an educational environment where people in different stages can learn from each other’s experiences. The current family group meets on Tuesdays from 4-5:30 p.m.

How much does it cost?

The first session is free! Subsequent sessions are $20 per person per session which works out to be about $140 for the 8 week program.

How do I get involved?

Individuals who want to join the Family Healing Group can call Turning Point and set up a 30 minute to one hour assessment. The assessment is set in place to ensure that this is the right place for you and your family. To ensure that you and your loved ones get the proper care, we will assess to make sure this is an appropriate forum for you or suggest alternatives if this group wouldn’t benefit you.

Take care of you, too

Remember that addiction impacts everyone involved. It’s important to make sure you’re getting the help you need and are being taken care of as well. We are here to help.
